SUMMER “CALM” AT ST. MARY SCHOOL!
Students’ voices may not fill the hallways during Summer Vacation, but there is still a lot taking place at St. Mary School while the children are away!
The fresh coat of paint really looks great, doesn’t it? The last time the school was painted was in 1993! Awnings were refreshed over the Kindergarten classroom and computer lab, too.
Inside, new blinds have been installed in classrooms and work areas. In the small bathroom, used by Kindergarten and First Grade students, new flooring is going in along with Marlite to keep the walls clean looking. These improvements were made possible by funds raised by our Mothers’ Guild at the 2010 Walk-A-Thon.*
Teachers through the generosity of 2011 Auction Committee members and supporters are ordering new resource materials. Textbooks will be arriving at the school shortly, too.
Of course, our wonderful Ramon is hard at work touching up paint, freshening classrooms and hallways, and repainting lines on the grounds while LuRosa Janitorial Service cleans everything inside from top to bottom. Parents and friends of the parish will put the finishing touches on the school at the Workday, August 13th.**
Though it may appear that there is “not much going on” at St. Mary School during the summer, our students and parents will be welcomed back on August 18th with a clean, fresh look as we begin our 140th Anniversary year and prepare for WCEA/WASC accreditation in the Spring.
*In 2010, students and teachers walked more than 1200 miles and raised $56,000 for St. Mary School programs! If you would like to become a 2011 Walk-A-Thon sponsor, with print recognition and website acknowledgment, contact Chair Vicki Goicovich at 710.9229.
**If you would like to help at the PARISH WORKDAY (clean desks and chairs, paint railings, do some light gardening, etc.), call the School Office (842.2827) today and let us know you’ll be here!
